Our client, a single Dad of two beautiful teenage daughters, knew the moment he saw this modest Laurelhurst English Tudor it was perfect for his family. The home had history, good bones, ample light, and a great layout. It just needed to be personalized. We were selected to help express the family’s personal style: a mixture we describe as traditionally rooted with a global influence, and a touch of bohemian style.
+We began with a small wish list of cosmetic construction improvements for the home to work for the family’s lifestyle. At the top of the list was securing the backyard fencing and creating a mudroom in the home so the dogs could come in from the backyard. We installed an electronic cat door, put in closet systems and storage, and removed wall-to-wall carpet in the basement, deciding instead to install low maintenance luxury vinyl tile.
Our final improvement was a much-desired cast iron bathtub for the master suite in navy blue with rivets. We pulled the oak hardwoods around the tub, opting for a diamond harlequin design - a stylistic nod to English Tudor - mixing both the hex tile
from the bathroom and the existing oak hardwoods.
During the transformation, our client’s parents were downsizing their family home back east, and with their blessing, we selected a couple heirloom rugs, artwork, and farmhouse furniture that were meaningful to him and his daughters. We planned and furnished the entire home incorporating old with new - family heirlooms, collections from travel, and new treasures. The origin and stories we learned along the way were fantastic.
