Opening Night at the Street of Dreams
Thursday, July 29, 2010 was opening night for the Street of Dreams in Portland, Oregon. Below is the article that appeared in the Street of Dreams magazine about the black tie affair that raised money for local charities on opening night. Angela Todd Designs proudly sponsored the event and chaired the Mid Summer Night’s Dream committee that put the evening event together.
It is our pleasure to unveil the Street of Dreams set a top one of Portland’s most recognized boulevards: Skyline. The cascading views, old growth timber, flickering light of the city down below, and the moonlit sky made an obvious theme for this year’s Mid Summer Night’s Dream, Illuminate the Night at Skyline.
Looking back over the last 34 years of the show in Portland, we have noticed that each year the Street of Dreams parallels what homeowners are looking for in their lifestyle. Today, we are interested in sustainable building and living a carefree, relaxed lifestyle that allows us to enjoy moments in our home with our family and friends. For some homeowner, carefree means a smaller home footprint, while for others, a relaxed lifestyle might include an outdoor space, or a home fitness center.
Our “green” movement as a society stems from our consideration for the generations to come. It is our hope that the beauty and vast resources we have today to enjoy will be kept safe and plentiful. As we sought beneficiary charities for this year’s event, we asked ourselves, “What charities benefit our community, families and children?” This year we selected Legacy Emmanuel Hospital, YMCA of Willamette Valley, and The Home Builders Foundation for all of the good works they do in our communities. We thank these outstanding organizations for their service and it is our honor to partner with them.
This year at sunset, opening night started with a champagne toast. Homeowners, building professionals, local celebrities and community leaders meandered past glowing lanterns and crisp linens and into each home for the first view of the 2010 Street of Dreams. Each home this year had an Earth Advantage Certification, and each provided its own unique perspective on sustainable living. This year size, scale and price of the featured homes covered a broad range; from $200,000 to $2,400,000, less than 1000 to over 5,000 square feet, from cottage to contemporary styles. Illustrating a dream home can be achieved at any price point and lifestyle.
